Overview

We will see other wildlife, catch some leftover aspen and cottonwood autumn gold, but this trip is about grizzly bears.

Whether you want to photograph them or simply observe them we will spend our days looking for and at grizzly bears. We will talk about ethology, their behavior, their unique relationships with each other and with us. While we have a pre-planned route we will go where the bears are on any given day.

We will explore both known haunts and remote corners of the ecosystem. If you have a specific bear you want to spend time with we can try to focus on him or her.

We can take up to six guests across two SUVs so that everyone has a window and door that opens. This is a private tour perfect for couples, families or friends.

We will give you as much photographic instruction as you like.

FAQ's

What wildlife will I see?

Fall, October in particular, is our favorite time of year for wildlife. Everybody is busy getting ready for winter. Bears are in their manic feeding frenzy called hyperphagia. Moose have finished the rut. Bulls are hanging out in bachelor groups of a dozen or more. Elk bugling echos across the mountains. Wolves, coyotes and foxes are donning their winter coats while Teton pronghorn begin to think about their southward migration.

What will the weather be like?

Mornings can be crisp with temperatures down in to the single digits. Afternoons are generally mild but pleasant.

What should I wear?

Always dress in layers and wear waterproof close-toed shoes or booths. No sandals, please.  We wear long pants and long-sleeve SPF shirts. Always have headwear available.

Who is this tour for?

Our private tours are for singles, couples, families or groups looking for a deeper experience in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Will we do any hiking?

While we regularly walk 5 - 7 miles throughout the day we do not lead dedicated hiking tours. In Grand Teton we are limited to no more than a 1/2 mile from any trailhead and are specifically prohibited from going to Hidden Falls.

Do I need to worry about snakes?

No. There are no poisons snakes in Grand Teton. While there are a few prairie rattlesnakes in the extreme north of Yellowstone we won’t be walking in any of those areas. There have only been two reported snake bites in Yellowstone.

Will I need to bring bear spray?

No, we ask that you do not bring bear spray.  We will not be in the back country on our tours.  We will have some bear spray if a situation arises.
