Overview

The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is at its full summer glory. Beginning in June with the panoply of wildflowers and verdant fields through the amber days of August and early September, our summer Grand Teton and Yellowstone Expedition Tours give you the opportunity to experience everything that this great ecosystem has to offer.

Warm days and cool nights bring wild temperature swings up to 70 degrees in a day. We live by the 4As in summer: Any Animal Anytime Anywhere.

These generalist tours will take advantage of swollen waterfalls, epic landscapes, ubiquitous wildlife and the ability to largely stay out of the summer crowds. Custom itineraries are available from 3 – 12 days.

Our summer Grand Teton and Yellowstone Expedition tour can start and stop in either Jackson, Wyoming, or Bozeman, Montana.

FAQ's

What wildlife will I see?

Wildlife is wild and can show up anytime in any place. Temperatures are generally hotter and wildlife is more active early and late in the day. All of the babies are feeling more confident, straying further from mom. Some wildlife is moving higher in elevation to say cool. In early to mid-June bears are feeding on elk calves and are out on the landscape. By the second week of July grizzly bears are usually found at higher elevation. Bison are rutting in late July in one of nature's great spectacles. Bull elk and moose antlers are completely grown out by mid-summer.

What will the weather be like?

Temperatures are generally warmer and can reach into the high 90's. We can still have drastic temperature swings with chilly mornings around freezing. We've had snow every month of the year in the ecosystem. We will really push you to stay hydrated.

What should I wear?

We always recommend dressing in layers. Close-toed waterproof shoes are always favored. Long pants and SPF long sleeve shirts. A sun hat or baseball cap to keep the sun off your face. We always recommend sunblock and SPF lip balm.

Who is this tour for?

This tour is for singles, couples, families and private groups. People of all ages, photographers and non-photographers alike are welcome. Anyone wanting to get a deeper appreciation for the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem will find this to be a great fit.

Will we do any hiking?

While we regularly walk 5 - 7 miles throughout the day we do not lead dedicated hiking tours. In Grand Teton we are limited to no more than a 1/2 mile from any trailhead and are specifically prohibited from going to Hidden Falls.

Do I need to worry about snakes?

No. There are no poisons snakes in Grand Teton. While there are a few prairie rattlesnakes in the extreme north of Yellowstone we won't be walking in any of those areas. There have only been two reported snake bites in Yellowstone.

Will I need to bring bear spray?

No, we ask that you do not bring bear spray. We will not be in the back country on our tours. We will have some bear spray if a situation arises.
